We Are Off To See The Wizard

On Sunday we went to the Hobby Center to see The Wizard of Oz. I thought my daughter would be a little more excited to see The Wizard since we are die hard Wicked fans, but that was not the case. Baby Girl kept saying that she had already seen the movie and that she had not liked it all that much...what? It is the front-end, pre-sequel, to Wicked!! Blasphemy!!

Our tickets sucked. We were all the way up in the peanut gallery section, well, I would say past the peanut gallery section. Since the husband and I are unemployed we decided to save some cash by sitting next to the people wearing sports jerseys and baseball caps. Some of them even had CROCS!!! Who goes to the theatre with Crocs??!!

Anyway, the play was ok. The doggie, Toto, did an amazing job. The music was good and the acting commendable. Overall I give it one thumb up! The play however got me super excited about seeing Wicked this summer in Austin. I can't wait.

My Ghetto Daughter

My daughter will kill me today! We are looking at twirling outfits for competition...I want elegant and classy, she wants Rainbow Brite meets a bag of Skittles topped with "sparkles and lots of colorful gems". Yay me!!
I don't know where this girl gets it from. If the piece of clothing has sparkles, rhinestones, glitter, or butterflies she is all over it. She is not my daughter! I try to take her to the nice stores, I take her to Ralph Lauren and say, you can have anything you want, she just looks at me and says, no, thanks! She is a lover of that place they call Justice. I was a frienemy of Limited Too, they had some nice stuff mixed in with the overpriced Hanna Montana and Jonas Brother t-shirts. Since LT is gone, I am stuck with Justice. Great!
Aside from my hatred of anything she pics, she does make me laugh inside a little. She sounds so mature at explaining to me how she is the one wearing clothes and how I need to understand that we both have different tastes. Then of course I have to remind her that I am the one paying for the clothes!
I do compromise some, but dread the day that she gets a part-time job just to pay for her own clothing.
Sigh!

What are Those?

Just tried to explain to my 4 yo the difference between man's nipples and woman's breasts while by 7 yo daughter chimed in. I think he is more confused now!
Ha, ha, and all this while I was changing. He pulled up his shirt and started touching his nipples and asked me what they were called, then asked me what mine are called. Then Baby Girl came in and told us that I had the biggest ones! Then my confused 4 yo said that no! daddy had the biggest ones. Those kids make me chuckle.

Peanut Butter!!

My son's (The Sequel) favorite sandwich is turkey, cheese, and peanut butter!! NO BREAD. I don't know about you guys, but that sound gross to me. I happily make it for him, since he is really picky and doesn't eat well most of the time. It does roll neatly into a roll which makes it easier for him to handle and eat, so that is nice. Peanut butter!! peanut butter!! Really?!!

Summer of Concerts!

This summer is shaping up to be one of music. The Woodlands Pavilions has a great music line up this year. I am going to Coldplay in July and I just got my pre-sale tickets for Depeche Mode in August!! I am super excited. I also want to go to Def Leppard, so if anyone has an extra ticket and need a cute girl friend ;) to go with please let me know OR if you have a ticket(s) for sale also let me know. Yay me!!

Up Way Too Early!

Facebook Status -> Chica is kicking herself! What possessed me to sign up to chair Donuts with Dad? I need to be picking up the donuts at 5am. I will have drool and pillow case marks!
The event was a lot of fun and a HUGE success. The only minor problem was that Wal-Mart did not have my milk and juice ready to go when I got there, so I had to wait around until they got everything together. The bakery dept. did have all 70 Dozen of my donuts ready.
The volunteers were amazing and the parent's great. It was really a great time.

Spanking Illegal??

My French comrade tells me that spanking will become ILLEGAL in France. I am not one to hastily spank, but illegal? It is necessary sometimes. Opinions??

Facebook Status - "It seems that The Sequel has changed Baby Girl's name to Alicia. I am going to have to limit his "Go Diego Go" watching". Not only that but he keeps yelling "there's animals in trouble". Too funny, or is it?

Interview

I had an interview today. I am only looking for a temporary position, one that I can have for 3 to 4 months, you know, nothing too formal, just some data entry, phone, well, general secretarial work, or take over for a maternity leave; but you would have thought that I was applying to become an astronaut or something. I was at the place for almost three hours!!! I was about to run out of there screaming. Cheez. How hard is it for a girl to get a job nowadays?!

Happy Groundhog Day!

Facebook Status - "Chica is wondering how accurate is this whole groundhog business...six more weeks of winter...booo!!!" I already had to go tan this weekend. I was starting to look pasty. Six more weeks...yuck.

Rock Band

Facebook Status - "The Sequel wants to "play" Rock Band. He is on Elmo guitar, The Last Episode is on drums, Baby Girl is on keyboard, so I guess I will rock out some Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star".
The Sequel is dragging the old Fender out, so I guess I am on acoustic and vocals. The funny thing is that Baby Girl keeps running away and The Sequel keeps yelling at her to come back and "rock with us". Ha, ha, I have no idea where TS gets his rocker moves. He dances and play the guitar like a rock star. He is too funny!

The Sequel Enjoying the Pool...Today!!

The water is freezing, but for some reason my son thinks today is perfect pool weather. Then he tried to convince all of us to get in...crazy kid!

Awesome Day!

After my interview, which I think went pretty well, after all, it was my first in ten years, I headed to Tootsie's to be fitted for the dress I will wear to the TUTS (Theater Under the Stars) event on Tuesday. The TUTS event called "Elle of an Event!" will benefit the TUTS’ Education & Community Outreach programs. Yay!!

Chica is getting ready for the first job interview in almost 10 years!!

The last time I went on a job interview was 1999. I worked for (company name) for a little over 7 years. I have done my own thing for 2. I am a little nervous, but excited at the same time. It is a temporary position, I will be cover someones maternity leave. I think it would be a good opportunity to get my feet wet and or at least practice my interview skills!!
I will be wearing my CD suit and who can resist a suit like that? So I might get the position on the suit alone ;)
Ok, guys wish me luck or at least keep your fingers crossed in that I don't make a gigantic fool of myself.
The most exciting part is that after the interview I get to go to Tootsie's and pick out two, yes two, dresses that I will be modeling on the following week!! I get to have a fitting and have them altered.
So, if I totally suck at least I will have that to pump me up!!!

Burning Down the House

Facebook Status - "The kids woke me up with breakfast in bed. Baby Girl made scrambled eggs, then I slowly realized that she had the stove on! Her excuse, The Sequel(3.5) helped her!" Ha, ha, since I was still kinda waking up when she barged into my bedroom to give the breakfast, it took me a while to realize that she actually have had to turn the stove on to cook the eggs. It was like a slow moving clock, my brain in the morning works that way. Anyway, by the time I got to the eggs they were a bit too cold.
Ok, and this is from a girl that for some reason needs some help getting dressed all the time!
I applaud her efforts and independence, but had to talk to her about the dangers of turning the stove on, especially with a little brother around.

Karaoke Anyone??

The night started harmlessly enough with The Foundations' - Build Me Up Buttercup, from there it moved to some Miley Cyrus and Amy Winehouse. The night ended very naughtily with my performance of The Divynils - I Touch Myself. The funny thing was that the song was queued twice, so people got to see my awesome performance two times!

Happiness is...

Facebook Status - "Things that make me truly happy: taking a walk on a clear night and actually being able to see planets and dozens of constellations...ahhh, true happiness." I love the sky. I have always felt a connection. When I was little, my family, would make the hour drive back home from Panama to Colon, Panama, usually late on a Sunday night. I remember that the sky was always clear, the moon bright, and I would rest my head on the back window and look up at the sky. For some reason the sky has always made me feel safe and incredibly happy!

I Am Funny Like That

Cheez, the kids were going a little crazy and I was trying to get everyone situated, after everything had calmed down and I was going to start enjoying myself, I spill my drink! Spazmatics Night

Thursday was the first Thursday in forever that I was able to go out. I NEVER go out on Thursday, because the kids go to school on Friday and I really don't know how much fun I would be if I need to get up early! Anyway, because of a teacher work day (We had six days off because of Ike, I don't know what they are thinking, but that is another post all together) the kids had off Friday and I was finally able to enjoy myself on a Thursday Night.

To celebrate I decided to take my friend up on his offer to take me to see a band called The Spazmatics that plays at Sammy's, but only on Thursday night! The Spazmatics is an 80's cover band...they are amazing. The night was so much fun! I highly recommend them.

Spring Awakening

I was so excited about this, not only was I going to see a musical, which all of you guys know I love, but I was going to see Spring Awakening the winner of eight, yes 8!, Tony Awards, AND I was going to be seating ON STAGE!!

Now, I have been to smaller community theaters, like Stages, where the action happens right on you, but I was at the HOBBY CENTER, a massive 2,650 seat theatre, so I was super excited to be “literally” a part of the event.

The show was fantastic, the music contemporary, and the actors amazing. Spring Awakening is a coming of age story, set at the turn of the century, when defiance was not tolerated and sexual awareness was punishable. There is nudity involved, but it is tastefully done and within the context of the story. The only downer is the sad ending; I guess it watches the mood of the era. It completely contrasts the high energy and excitement of the first act. Overall, it was an amazing show and I highly recommend it.

My experience on the front row of the stage seating is indescribable, but I will try. I love the theatre and to be able to be so close and see the actors expressions, movements, and to see how it all flows and comes together from a different perspective was pretty much a dream come true. Something I will never forget.

Arrgghhh, ok, I was tagged by my dear friend Phil. Now, you guys know that I do not like doing this type of thing, after all I am a very private person, but it was requested by Mr. (last name), so here I go. If you were tag just do it, I did it!!!

16. I love the quote – “If we do not find anything very pleasant, at least we shall find something new" by Voltaire, because I think it describes how life should be viewed overall. If something does suck, well, at least it is a new experience!!

Tidying up 2008

Why do I feel that New Year’s Eve is such a big deal? After all it is just another night before another day. Scientifically it is, but in my mind it is so much more than that. The last night of the year is a time to tie up all loose ends and wipe the slate clean for the coming 365 days.

A friend once told me that the way you spend New Year’s Eve is how the whole year will be dictated. My grandmother passed away last December 31. Last New Year’s I felt sad, unsure, and uncertain - not a winning combination. The whole 2008 I felt like I had been run over by a school bus and for some reason it kept backing up on top of me! Aaahhhhh, again? Really?? A year like ’08 should never, ever, be repeated again!

This upcoming year I want things to be different. I was to feel 100% sure and in total control of my life. Is that weird or even possible? I want to say goodbye to the old and hello! to the new. I want to wake up every day renewed and in charge – easier said than done, but only time will tell.

Ok, Emails have been written, telephone calls will be made, and texts are ready to be sent tonight. So, now, I am just sitting here waiting for the clock to hurry up and move its little hands and put an end to a horrible year. Good riddance 2008!!

Milly's Graduation Party

It was so cold outside! Really, really cold for Houston. I debated going out, but decided that if I would have stayed home I would regret it (specially since the husband had his friends over to play poker and video games). So, I braved the elements and headed out. Phil (@ellis_king) met me for dinner and then we headed to my girl Milly's graduation party. The party was outside (crap!), but I was glad I had taken my Michelin jacket with me thinking that I was going to dispose of it once I got inside and I would look amazing in pictures. I was however hearing open toe shoes (double crap)! By the end of the night my little piggly wigglys were frozen solid. After the party we headed over to Shadow Bar for the after-party. Good times!!

I did end up heading out for Mother's Night Out. We meet at Buca di Beppo and had a reservation for the kitchen table. Kind of weird to be hearing what is going on in the kitchen and having every single waiter stop by your table and tell you what they are carrying out. Anyway, I did have a good time, I skipped last month, so it was nice to see everyone again. I also took them all a little Christmas gift - a lottery ticket, but only one person won and they only won three dollar! Rip off!! I guess not the fun and exciting surprise I was hoping for.

Bad Mood

I hate being in a mad mood. I think it sucks, but for some reason I cannot help it. The things that got me in a bad mood today were –

It is freezing outside and to top it off it started snowing! I hate cold weather. I think that anything below 70 degrees is, well, just not cool. I hate going out when it is cold outside. If it was up to me I would hibernate and wake up in the spring. I however have been a little more open to doing things in these dreaded months, but people can see that I am just not myself.

Second thing that got me in a bad mood is - my dresses. I am going to a formal on Friday. I had the most amazing dress lined up for the event, an amazing, did I say amazing already? BCGI MaxAzria, number. I got it on sale a while back hoping to use it on a special occasion, well, the thing is that the dress looks amazing, there is that word again, from the front, but there is a bulge on the back. My hips are just too wide! Yes, I can lose some weight, but how can I lose 2 inches by Friday? I went back to the closet and I am not happy with anything. Anyway, I go to the store this morning to purchase a dress I saw online and the store tells me that they ship ALL those dresses to another store. It is cold and I don’t want to drive anywhere else. I guess I am wearing a Kay Unger dress on Friday, ugh!

Since I was already in a bad mood and had to start getting ready for tonight’s event everything I decided to wear just seemed wrong, so I decided to just stay home. Bah, humbug!

Third thing – I hate not finding things. Instead of accepting that my house is a giant black hole and everything put down will never be seen again, I try to look for things and get enraged when I cannot find something. When will I learn?

On the way to my mom’s house to drop Baby Girl off (the kids are spending the night over there since I was supposed to be at an event tonight) the snow started to come down fast. BG got super excited; she kept talking about how this day was going to be her number one memory and how awesome it was that it was snowing in Houston. She kept pointing at the sky and looking at it like it was the first time she has ever been outside. I reached over and touched her cheek in hopes that some her passion would somehow infect me. On the drive home I really looked outside, seeing all that snow come down was really a sight. On the driveway I stood still for a couple of minutes letting the snowflakes land on my face. It really felt good to just stand there and enjoy the moment - something I should really do a lot more of instead of getting in a bad mood for things that really don’t matter.

Tiara Happy Hour

This month's Houston Tiaras was held at Coffee Groundz.  The night was extremely chilly, but we just hung around the heaters.  I had a good time overall except for my feet that were killing me.  A small price to pay for wearing amazing boots!

Early Christmas Shopping

After writing over 125 customer thank you cards, I decided that it was time to go shopping. I usually do all my shopping the day after Thanksgiving, yes, at four in the morning, but this year since all the stores were having pre-Thanksgiving sales I decided that saving an extra 10% was not enough for me to get out of bed at 3am.

Anyway, I drove to the store and proceeded to pick out all my items. I was thinking that maybe I should just look and go back on Friday when all the toys would be 50% off rather than just 40%, but the thought of getting up made me just stick to my original plan. When it comes to sales I am really cheap. It is weird because I do not mind spending A LOT of money buying a purse, I guess because Gucci never has a sale and because all I can really do is buy from eluxury just to make sure I do not pay the sales tax and get free shipping. When it comes to “normal” items I am a little psycho in trying to find the lowest price possible.

Ok, back to my story, I get the items and go check-out. Imagine my elation when the cashier tells me that I can save and EXTRA 15% by applying for a store card; I do not have to use the card all I have to do is apply!!! I was so excited. Yesterday I won a Wii Fit and today I am getting an extra 15% off in purchases that was bitting the bullet and getting because I did not want to get up so early in the morning. Wow, it is my lucky day. After the shopping spree I made my way to my local gas station where I purchased five lotto tickets and three scratch-offs. I have not checked them yet, but I could be a millionaire.

I Won!!!

I attended the Mom 2.0 Kick-Off Party tonight and I won a Wii Fit!! Not only that, but I also won a free ticket to the conference. Man, it is my lucky day. I never win anything, so it was a nice surprise.

Lighting of The Doves

My daughter had her first twirling gig today at The Lighting of The Doves at The Woodlands. She only began twirling a couple of months ago, but I think she did really well for a newbie. She also looked simply adorable in her outfit and red ponytail bows.

Friday Very Busy Fun Day!!

On Friday I had lunch with my dear friends Sandra and Claudia. I had not see Claudia in ages so it was nice to see her again and just catch up.



High School Reunion Planning MTG #3
And since I had a reunion planning meeting in town I decided just to hang out and wait for the Happy Hour to begin. The reunion committee met at Cadillac Bar, the place that we were thinking of using...we do have to tested out and all!! We did decided that the Cadillac Bar was a perfect fit for our event. I am glad that has been decided.



We had a blast and I think disclosed just a little bit too much, like high school crushes. I just hope it is not brought up ever again ;(

High School Reunion - MTG #2

I attended my second high school reunion planning meeting today. Things are going well, I think we have decided to plan and put together the event ourselves rather than use a planning reunion service. This will mean a lot more work for those involved, but we will have more control of how we want things done. Is that good or bad? don't know yet!

This time for dessert I made Walnut Brownies and took some vanilla ice cream to accompany my chocolate creations. Yummy!!

Huh, once again, I used to be incredibly shy in high school, so it is a little weird to me that I would want to be involved as much as I am, since realistically I AM meeting my classmates for the first time. So far everyone has been super nice, so I hope that things continue as well as they are. If not, I will just have to eat my $50 worth of food at the reunion party!

Chica is Down

My Girl Lenny is in Town

My girl Lenny made a visit to Houston so we decided to get together and hit the town. We first stopped by the Red Lion Pub and then headed to Pearl Bar. It was a lot of fun, but I had a little too much to drink, oops! Anyway, once in a while is ok, plus Lenny was in town ;)


He was my prom date almost 20 years ago! The whole night I kept calling him "Prom Date". Everyone thought I was kidding. Too funny!

Halloween 2008

We had an amazing Halloween. As you all know I am a Halloween lover. This year we all decided, ok, well, I decided, that we should dress up as Super Heroes. This year we played the new Disney Tinker Bell movie and Ironman on the big screen. Now I have to start thinking of a theme for next year!

Ok, no, not really, but I am in love Jillian Michaels' body, especially her arms. I would kill to have guns like that! Anyway, here is a really good article about her views on weight loss. I will be going to my 20th high school reunion planning meeting today and was asked to take a dessert. John thinks I am setting the bar too high. I am trying to make a good impression, so maybe this will do it.

Five Years, Yeah!!

Today FIVE years ago I started blogging. In has been a fun ride. It just seems like yesterday that I was sitting in a little hotel room in Marion, IL. finally making the decision to start blogging. I have met some great people along the way and hope that the next five years are as much fun as these ones were. Thanks to everyone that takes time to read my blog and I promise and hope to be able to do more blogging and less twittering from now on.

The internet

The internet has let me down! I usually rely on the internet to find pretty much everything in my life. I use it to find items for my kid's birthday parties, I use it to find long lost friends and to remind me why there are so, and I use it to search for any diseases I might be having. How else would I of known that was dying from a malignant tumor last year?! Anyway, the internet completely let me down this time.

How hard can it be to find a black mini dress with split-sleeves?? Huh??? It is nearly impossible. I have been searching for a couple of days now to no avail. I pretty much have had to settle for a tunic with 3/4 sleeves, which I am pretty sure will be way too short, I guess I will be flashing a some people. On top of that the dress, err tunic, I am settling for is costing me $158!

I am still kinda pissed off about this whole internet business. You would think that in today's day and age all I would have to do is type an item description and have the exact item I want just pop up. There would be no days on end looking for that magical dress that in my mind will make me look amazing. In a perfect world the item would just be there waiting for me...sigh.

Friday Night Fun

Yippie, I had a great time. We started FNF at Coaches Pub in Midtown. We had drinks and dinner (I think I was the only one eating, I hate when that happens), and then headed to the Tavern on Gray. It was fun, we just hung out and played pool. A nice night.

UH vs. UAB Game

I attended the UH vs. UAB game. My friend Mark invited me to attend the Delta Upsilon tailgating pre-game party. I had not hung out with the guys in ages, but since my horoscope said for me to try new things, I decided to go. I had fun even though the guys kept calling me MA'AM. Yeap, I felt old. On the plus side, I did see one of old-skool brothers; I guy that I hung out with back in the day. It was so much fun to see him again after almost 15 years. I guess I am old!

Saturday Night Fun

On Saturday I attended the Houston Tiara's Happy Hour at Mak Chin's. It was a lot of fun. I so enjoy going out and meeting new people (yeah, that makes me sound like a dork, but it's true).

Anyway, I left my tiara in the car so I ended up bumming off tiaras for the pics.



After the Happy Hour we headed to Shadowbar for my girl Milly's bday party.

Feel Like Crying

Why do I always let the stupid, insignificant stuff affect me?
Today I took The Sequel to his weekly Kindermusik class. This was his second class, because everything was kinda shaken up after Ike. During the first week, he went into the room, but did not participate. This week he refused to go in! The class started and the teacher was nice enough to leave the door open. When things got a little loud the teacher told The Sequel that he had to decide whether he was staying out or coming in. Anyway, when I closed the door I felt like shit. I felt judged my the parents that were in the hall waiting for their perfect children to finish their class. I literary felt like sobbing. I know it is stupid to feel like that, but I just do.

Know The Sequel says he wants to go back to gymnastics. Last Spring I pay the Registration Fee (yes, all these places have a registration fee! PLUS the monthly fees) and the tuition for TWO months. All he did was sit by me.

Part of me is telling me to leave him alone, but the other part of my brain feels that he needs to be out with other children his age. He needs to learn teamwork, participation, waiting your turn, and listening to instructions. I am frustrated with this kid. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
